Understand Lap Distance Calculations
ONE RACEHUB uses layout lap lengths to calculate saved run distance. The selected length depends on the lap type, the values configured for the layout, and whether the lap is assigned to a specific layout.
Before you begin:
- Make sure the track and its layouts are configured. For instructions, see Configure Tracks and Layouts.
ⓘ Lap Distance calculations affect tyre mileage and part run-distance tracking.
How ONE RACEHUB selects a lap length
When a run's distance is saved, ONE RACEHUB checks the available lengths in the following order.
| Lap type | Order of priority |
|---|---|
| Normal lap | Lap Length (Car Data) → Lap Length (Official) → Lap Length (Roulette) |
| In-lap or out-lap | The same priority order is set as for a normal lap. |
| Pit-lane lap | Pit length → the normal-lap length |
ONE RACEHUB uses the first available value in the relevant order.
Example: A layout has Roulette 4.300 km, Car Data 4.285 km, and Official 4.280 km.
- Roulette is set: 4.300 km is used.
- Roulette is empty, Car Data is set: 4.285 km is used.
- Roulette and Car Data are empty, Official is set: 4.280 km is used.
Understand empty and zero values
Empty fields and values of 0 behave differently.
- Empty field: The system can continue to the next fallback value.
- Value of 0: The system treats zero as a value and uses it instead of a later fallback.
Example: If the Car Data lap length is 0, ONE RACEHUB uses that value rather than the Official or Roulette length. Laps using that length add no mileage.
⚠ The create-layout dialog sets the Official and Car Data lap lengths to 0 by default. Replace these values before saving the layout.
ⓘ Values of 0 or above 30 km (about 18.6 miles) trigger a warning for the Official and Car Data lap lengths. Check these values if you see the warning.
How ONE RACEHUB selects a layout
Each lap uses a layout according to the following rules:
- The lap specifies a layout: ONE RACEHUB uses that layout.
- The lap does not specify a layout, and the event has one layout: ONE RACEHUB uses that layout.
- The lap does not specify a layout, and the event has multiple layouts: The lap adds no distance.
⚠️ Make sure laps are associated with the correct layout when an event uses multiple configurations of the same circuit.

How saved run distance is used
Saved run distance feeds into:
- Tyre mileage
- Part run-distance tracking
Incorrect or missing lap lengths can therefore affect the recorded distance and the mileage derived from it.
Before troubleshooting distance calculations
Check the following settings:
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| A lap adds no distance | Whether the first available length is 0; whether the event has multiple layouts and the lap has no layout; whether all lengths for that lap type are empty |
| Distance is higher or lower than expected | Which length is selected, using the order for the lap type |
| In-lap or out-lap distance differs from normal laps | Whether the in-lap or out-lap's own lengths are set, or whether the normal-lap length is used instead |
For instructions on entering lap lengths, see Configure Tracks and Layouts.
