Using Pressure Calculations

Optimize tyre pressures through data-driven strategies, eliminating guesswork and enhancing performance with a systematic trial-and-error approach.

What Are Pressure Calculations?

The Pressure Calculation tool in ONE RACEHUB helps you determine the optimal starting tyre pressures to achieve your target pressures during a run. This eliminates guesswork and provides a data-driven approach to tyre pressure management.

The system works by:

  • Recording reference pressures at a standard temperature (typically 20°C)
  • Calculating adjustments based on current conditions
  • Learning from actual results to improve future predictions
  • Helping you refine your pressure strategy through a systematic trial-and-error process

Accessing Pressure Calculations

To access the Pressure Calculation tool:

  1. Navigate to the Tyres section in the sidebar
  2. Select Pressure Calculations
  3. Choose your Series, Season, Event, and Session at the top

Setting Up Pressure Calculations

For each tyre set you want to calculate pressures for:

  1. Select the tyre set from the list
  2. Enter your Target Pressure for each tyre position (FL, FR, RL, RR)
    • This is the pressure you want to achieve when the tyres are up to operating temperature
  3. Enter your Reference Pressure for each position
    • This is the starting pressure at the reference temperature (usually 20°C)
    • Initially based on experience, later refined by the system
  4. Enter the expected Track Temperature
  5. Select whether this will be a Short Run or Long Run
    • Different coefficients are used for different run lengths
  6. Optionally, enter the current Setup Temp if your tyres aren't at reference temperature
    • This is the current temperature of your tyres

Understanding the Calculations

Based on the inputs, the system calculates:

  • Setup Pressure (Theoretical): What pressure you should put in the tyres now to reach your target pressure on track

After entering all your data, you can then measure and record:

  • Setup Pressure (Measured): The actual pressure you set before the run

Learning From Results

After completing a run:

  1. Record the actual pressures achieved on track in your runsheet
  2. Return to the Pressure Calculations
  3. The system will display:
    • Your original calculations
    • The actual results
    • Suggested new reference pressures based on the results

This creates a feedback loop that continually improves your pressure predictions.

The Trial and Error Process

The Pressure Calculation tool is designed to help with the trial and error process of finding optimal pressures:

  1. Start with your best estimate of reference pressures
  2. Use the calculator to set starting pressures
  3. Record actual results
  4. Let the system suggest improved reference pressures
  5. Use these for your next calculation
  6. Repeat until you consistently hit your targets

Over time, this process builds a valuable database of pressure-temperature relationships specific to your car, tyres, and tracks.

Next Steps

After setting up your pressure calculations:

  1. Record tyre data in your runsheets
  2. Analyze the results after each session
  3. Refine your pressure strategy
