Circle of Doom
An interpolation-based positioning estimation tool that provides real-time car positioning updates at each sector or loop crossing. The plugin displays a linearized representation of the track as a circle.
Timing Sectors/Loops
Grey lines intersect the circle to define timing sectors or loops on this track representation. If a car is late to cross a timing sector, its marker will remain at that position until the car crosses the sector or reaches a timeout threshold and disappears.
Gap Indicators
When the gap between cars exceeds 3 seconds, green text follows the circle displaying the current gap value. This gap information updates at every sector/loop crossing.
Lap Completion Indicator
A thick green line with a bold green number indicates the maximum number of laps that can be completed in the remainder of the session. For example, if the line shows "40":
- Cars ahead of this line can complete 40 laps in the session
- Cars behind this line can only complete 39 laps in the session
Note: This is not including the Session Time lost during Pit Stops. For an accurate projection of laps remaining that factors in pit stops, use the Laps Remaining Plugin 📎.
Menu Options
Access the plugin menu by right-clicking anywhere in the Circle of Doom window. The menu contains 24 options that control plugin behaviour.
Driver Focus
Driver Selection
- Hover over 'Driver' to open a selection window on the right
- Scroll through the window to select a car to focus on
- Selection changes the plugin display to show detailed information for that car
Center Display Information When a driver is selected, the circle center displays:
- Car Number (large text)
- Car Position (smaller white text below car number)
- Gap Information (red or green text):
- Above car number: Gap to car ahead
- Red text = gap is increasing
- Green text = gap is closing
- Below car number: Gap to car behind
- Green text = gap is opening
- Red text = gap is closing
- Above car number: Gap to car ahead
-
Formula E Attack Mode For Formula E events, attack mode safety indicators appear next to the gap behind information:
- ATK OK: Selected car can safely use attack mode and rejoin ahead of the car behind
- ATK RISK: Car behind is too close; attack mode use may result in losing position
- Controlled by 'TimeLostTriggeringAttackMode' in Event Settings
Visual Highlighting
- Selected car's TLA (Three Letter Abbreviation) is highlighted on the circle
- Gap information updates at every sector/loop crossing
Pit Window
Pit Exit Window A pit exit window appears on the circle when a driver is selected, defined by event settings. The window type can be adjusted using the 'Pit Loss' menu option (static or dynamic values).
Static Pit Window
- Displayed with solid lines at each extremity
- Shows anticipated pit loss aligned with the reference driver
- Provides continuous visual of track re-entry point post-pit stop
- Parameters set by Event Settings: BestPitTime and WorstPitTime
- No additional calculations affect this window
Dynamic Pit Window
- Displayed with dashed lines
- Automatically adjusts pit stop timing throughout the race
- Window start: Fuel-only pit stop time
- Window end: Full service (fuel + tire change) time
- Calculations include:
- Current fuel level (StartFuelLoad for first stint, MaxFuelLoad for subsequent stints)
- Fuel consumption per lap (FuelConsumptionLap setting)
- Required fuel to race end
- Refuel time based on FuelRate setting
- Drive-through time loss, park-and-go time loss, and tire change time loss
Car Pointers
Additional Car Highlighting
- Hover over 'Driver Pointers' to select additional cars for highlighting
- No limit on number of cars that can be selected
- Enable 'Display Driver Pointers' to show a secondary outer ring with pointers for selected cars
- Outer ring displays green gap text for gaps larger than 3 seconds
Class Leader Pointers
- Enable 'Display Class Leader Pointers' to show class leaders on the outer ring
- Use 'Class Leader Pointers' dropdown to select which leaders to display
- Leader indicators:
- Solid circle: Overall race leader (also class leader)
- Circle with hole: Other class leaders
- Circle colors match class colors from 'Class Settings' plugin
Reference Lines
Select predefined 'Lap Reference Points' from Event Settings to display as solid colored lines with sector/loop thickness. Hover over lines with the mouse to view labels.
Class Selection
Bulk Selection
- 'Select all classes': Shows all car classes
- 'Unselect all classes': Hides all car classes
Individual Selection Use 'Classes' menu to select specific car classes for display.
Team Highlighting
Display only team cars on the circle by:
- Navigate to File > Series dropdown
- Select series and year to display team list
- Right-click on team name
- Select 'Set [Team Name] as team to highlight'
- Restart ONE TIMING to apply changes
Lap Type Prediction
Enable 'Show lap type prediction' to display the current lap type:
Car Position Indicators
- Inside circle: Car is on an outlap
- Outside circle: Car can display three lap types:
- No brackets: Push Lap
- Normal brackets (): Slow lap (controlled by LapTypes or SlowLapThreshold in Event Settings)
- Square brackets []: Target lap (defined by TargetLapLoops in Event Settings)
Traffic Prediction
Enable 'Show Traffic Prediction' to display an exclamation mark next to a car's TLA when:
Cars Behind:
- Selected car is not on a fast lap
- Car behind is on the same lap and in the same class
- Car behind is on a push lap
- Predicted gap is less than 'ImpedingIfLessthan' Event Setting
Cars Ahead
- Selected car is on a fast lap
- Car infront is on the same lap and in the same class
- Car infront is not on a push lap
- Predicted gap is less than 'CleanAirIfAheadMoreThanSeconds' Event Setting
Display Options
Reference Lap Time Enable 'Display Reference lap time' to show the lap time used for Circle of Doom calculations in the bottom left corner.
Laps in Stint Enable 'Display laps in stint' to show the number of laps completed in the current stint, displayed after a dash next to the driver's TLA.
Laps Remaining Enable 'Display Laps Remaining' to show:
- Number of laps remaining for each car (next to TLA)
- Distance from the thick green lap completion line (after "/")
- Example: "15.5" means if the driver loses 15.5 seconds to reference lap time, they will complete one fewer lap in the session
Class-Specific Gaps Enable 'Display laps in class' to show gaps to cars within the same class rather than all cars on track. Affects gap display above and below the driver TLA in the circle center.
Ghost Analysis
FWD Ghost and RWD Ghost These features analyze gaps to preceding and succeeding vehicles based on pit stop scenarios of the selected reference car:
- RWD Ghost: Shows the position on track after a pitstop
- FWD Ghost: Shows the position on track before a pitstop
- Time loss calculations uses 'TimeLostInPit' Event Setting rather than the displayed pit window
Pit Stop Features
BOX Message Enable 'Show BOX Message' to display pit stop notifications when:
- A pit stop is defined in the pit stop planner
- An expected lap is defined in car settings
Pit Entry Countdown Enable 'Show Pit Entry countdown' to display a countdown in the bottom right corner showing time until the selected car reaches the pit entry line. Controlled by 'inlap' setting in Event Settings.
Lap Types Use 'Lap Types' dropdown to select from all lap types defined as inlaps in Event Settings. This setting determines pit entry countdown timing.
Time Format Options 'Time Format' provides three display options for pit entry countdown:
- Countdown to 0
- Time of day
- Session time elapsed
