Race Plan

The Race Plan plugin is designed to give race engineers and strategists critical insights into how the remaining portions of a race will unfold or how a team has run the practice session. By analyzing current stint data and projecting future pit stop windows, this tool helps teams make informed strategic decisions throughout the race duration.

Main Display Overview

Each entry shows a comprehensive overview of completed and ongoing stints, including:

  • Number of laps completed in each stint
  • Average lap time for the stint
  • Fastest lap time achieved during the stint
  • Driver name currently in the car

For stints currently in progress, the lap count display shows the number of completed laps on the left side, with the estimated total stint length displayed on the right side of these completed laps.

Sidebar Controls

The sidebar provides several bulk selection tools to customize which cars are displayed and analyzed:

Bulk Selection Options

  • Select All: Selects all drivers currently visible in the sidebar
  • Unselect All: Deselects all currently selected drivers
  • Manufacturer: Use the dropdown menu to select all cars from a specific manufacturer, which will update the available car selection in the left sidebar
  • Select All Classes: Chooses all car classes to be displayed in the sidebar
  • Unselect All Classes: Removes all car classes from the sidebar display

Individual Class Selection

The Classes section allows for granular control over which car classes are displayed. Hover over the Classes section to reveal individual class options on the right side, where you can select or deselect specific classes as needed.

Additonal Plugin Features

Right-clicking anywhere within the main plugin area reveals additional analysis options through a context menu with three key features:

Show Driver Summary

This option opens an additional information panel on the left side beneath the car number, displaying:

  • Total number of stops: Complete pit stop count for the race
  • Stops under caution: Number of pit stops made during yellow flag conditions
  • Stint average length: Mean stint duration across the race
  • Maximum stint length: Longest stint completed (available after 3 green flag pit stops)
  • Overall average lap time: Race-long average including all conditions
  • Cleaned average lap time: Average with slow laps removed, as defined by Event Settings

Enable Forward Predictions

This feature activates predictive analysis showing two strategic scenarios to reach the race finish:

Scenario 1 (Backward Calculation): Works backwards from the race finish using the default stint length to determine optimal pit stop timing.

Scenario 2 (Forward Calculation): Projects forward from the current race position using the default stint length, automatically shortening the final stint to meet minimum length requirements.

Note: The predictive scenarios become more accurate as more race data becomes available, particularly after several pit stop cycles have been completed.

Strategic Applications

The Race Plan plugin serves multiple strategic purposes during race events:

  • Identifying optimal pit stop windows based on stint length analysis
  • Comparing stint performance across different drivers and manufacturers
  • Predicting fuel and tire strategy requirements for race completion

Tip: Use the manufacturer and class filtering options to focus analysis on direct competitors, making it easier to identify strategic advantages or weaknesses relative to similar equipment.
