Add Sessions
Learn how to create a session within an event, such as free practice, qualifying, or a race. Sessions are where your team collects run data.
What is a session?
-
A session is one run period within an event. An event can hold several sessions, for example two free practice sessions, a qualifying session, and a race.
-
Sessions can also be used for activities that are not on track, such as simulator driving or workshop preparation.
Before you start
Make sure that:
- A series, a season, and an event are already created (see the Events article)
- The session names match the session names in ONE TIMING, if you want to import timing data
| Session Field | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Short name | The name displayed in the session selection bar, for example FP1, Q1, or R1. |
| Session type | The type of activity, such as Free Practice, Qualifying, or Race. |
| Start | The date and time the session starts. |
| End | The date and time the session ends. |
Add sessions to an event
You can add sessions when creating an event or to an existing event.
Option 1: Add sessions when creating an event
When you create an event, you can add its sessions in the same dialog. See Add Events for instructions.
Option 2: Add a session to an existing event
- Go to Configuration → Admin → Events
- To open a session, select each level in this order: Series → Season → Event → Session
- Select Add Session
- Enter a Name for the session. Enter a Short name to display a shorter label in the selection bar.
-
Set the Start time and End time.
- If your time zone differs from the event's time zone, the dialog displays a notification.
- If the end time is earlier than the start time, the dialog displays a warning.
- Select a Session type. The dialog defaults to FreePractice.
- Select Save
The new session appears in the event's session list.
Edit a session
- Select the Edit icon on the session row.
- Update the details and select Save.
💡 You can also use this dialog to edit the session's Balance of Performance (BoP), points system, and team and driver championship standings.
Delete a session
- Select the Delete icon on the session row
- Select Delete Session to confirm
⚠️ You cannot delete a session while it still has run sheets. Delete all associated run sheets first. Deleting a session cannot be undone.
Optional session controls
💡 To display the session times in UTC as well, select Show UTC session time.
The session list includes two optional controls:
Previous and Next
Use these fields to link a session to another session within the same event.
ONE RACEHUB uses these links when:
- Carrying a setup forward from an earlier session.
- Copying a setup from the previous session to a new run.
Merge Timing Sessions
This setting is also available as Is Linked Session in the session dialog.
Enable it when a single ONE RACEHUB session needs to cover multiple ONE TIMING sessions. For example, you can use it to combine Formula E qualifying groups and duels.
What's next?
Each session holds its run data. Create a run sheet for each session to record the runs of each contestant.
